Big is beautiful. I celebrate the bold, buxom and beautifully bizarre.
I daydream in clay and indulge my appetite for colour, surface pattern and illustration.
I am greatly inspired by the artwork I remember from a joyfully eclectic mix of 1960s and 70s graphic design, storybooks and cartoons on TV. From the slightly unnerving atmosphere of the Ladybird book fairy tales to Mary Mungo and Midge and the delicious Crystal Tips and Alistair. Check out ‘Ann In The Moon’ illustrated by Alan Aldridge!
I admire the effortless grace and exuberance of portraits in vintage Japanese wood block prints and am fascinated when I see characters emerging through the tilt of a head or the elevation of a cloud-like eyebrow in my work.
I am currently working in glazed earthenware and hand paint with delicious underglaze colour to make jolly pottery that you can lick if you really want to.
